Soil Test Results

February 28, 2023: As a result of the train derailment near our farm land, we sent our soil to an independent laboratory to be tested. We are happy to announce that our soil was found to be free of toxins!

Thank you all for your concern, texts and messages regarding our safety and the safety of our farm. We feel confident about the health of our soil and the safety of our customers! We are excited to start the 2023 season of transplanting!

Haffey Family Farm - East Palestine Train Derailment Effects

February 20, 2023: Many have reached out to us in the past few weeks regarding the train derailment in East Palestine, OH and how our farm land is affected. Haffey Family Farm rents land in Enon Valley, PA from family in which we farm all our produce, therefore, we wanted to take a moment to address the issue. First, we understand all of your concerns; our produce feeds our family too. Second, the health and safety of our customers is our top priority. Third, it is always our goal to provide high quality produce with confidence.  We would never grow or sell produce in or from contaminated soil.

With that being said, we would like to mention that our farm was not in the mandatory evacuation zone nor in the direction of the prevailing winds after the controlled burn. Our farm is on the Beaver and Lawrence County line and all of Haffey Family Farm's fields are in Lawrence County. We are working with safety officials, the Department of Agriculture and the EPA to find answers to your questions. We are working to find a laboratory to test our soil and are looking for other land leases as an additional option should that be needed. We would like to mention that we found healthy signs in our soil while working in the fields last week. The fields were loaded with worms which was a happy sight for us. Meanwhile, all of our seedlings are started and waiting for the right time to transplant. The seedlings are housed inside at our home in Industry, PA, far outside the evacuation zone.

Please, remember the families affected by this terrible disaster, the safety officials who worked hard and are still working hard to control it and your local farmers whose livelihood depends on healthy soil.
