EPA & DEP TEST RESULTS AS RESULT OF EAST PALESTINE TRAIN DERAILMENT
To ensure the safety of our customers and our family, both the EPA and the DEP took samples of our soil and water from various locations around the farm in late February, early March.
The test results supported the independent testing we had conducted and show no toxic chemicals detected in the water or the soil. This further supports the evidence we have been seeing around the farm showing the health of our soil and water, including worms, ladybugs, geese, sandhill cranes, frogs and toads.
We are confident in the safety of our produce this season for both our customers and our family.

Haffey Family Farm - East Palestine Train Derailment Effects
February 20, 2023: Many have reached out to us in the past few weeks regarding the train derailment in East Palestine, OH and how our farm land is affected. Haffey Family Farm rents land in Enon Valley, PA from family in which we farm all our produce, therefore, we wanted to take a moment to address the issue. First, we understand all of your concerns; our produce feeds our family too. Second, the health and safety of our customers is our top priority. Third, it is always our goal to provide high quality produce with confidence. We would never grow or sell produce in or from contaminated soil.
With that being said, we would like to mention that our farm was not in the mandatory evacuation zone nor in the direction of the prevailing winds after the controlled burn. Our farm is on the Beaver and Lawrence County line and all of Haffey Family Farm's fields are in Lawrence County. We are working with safety officials, the Department of Agriculture and the EPA to find answers to your questions. We are working to find a laboratory to test our soil and are looking for other land leases as an additional option should that be needed. We would like to mention that we found healthy signs in our soil while working in the fields last week. The fields were loaded with worms which was a happy sight for us. Meanwhile, all of our seedlings are started and waiting for the right time to transplant. The seedlings are housed inside at our home in Industry, PA, far outside the evacuation zone.
Please, remember the families affected by this terrible disaster, the safety officials who worked hard and are still working hard to control it and your local farmers whose livelihood depends on healthy soil.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us directly at 724-614-6854, by email to haffeyfamilyfarm@gmail.com,
